Al D’Andrea (book) is a stage director, writer and actor. He is the former Artistic Director of the Third Step Theatre Company, a collective of theatre artists devoted to new play development and production that was active in New York during the 1980’s and 1990’s. As a writer, Al developed and directed the Third Step’s premiere production of Onlyman, a contemporary retelling of the Greek myth of Narcissus and Echo, which he co-authored with MK Wolfe. He oversaw the development and directed the premiere production of Third Step's first original musical, The Christmas Bride, book by MK Wolfe, based on the Charles Dickens’ short story The Battle of Life.  Al also conceived and directed the Company’s developmental workshop and critically-acclaimed production of the new musical The Elephant Piece, an absurdist-environmental exploration of violence in homo sapiens as a species, written in collaboration with Darryl Curry. Working with longtime collaborators Curry and Wolfe, Al acted as project director, story contributor and co-bookwriter for the musical George Q, a contemporary retelling of Edmund Spenser’s The Faerie Queene. Currently Al is writing the script to the new play Omniphobia, an exploration of fear in contemporary society that he has developed with an acting ensemble in workshops he directed during the summers of 2007 and 2008. Al has also directed scores of productions, workshops and readings of original and classic theatre works in Los Angeles, New York, regionally and internationally.
